Sustainable Farming Practices

Our sustainable farming programs focus on a range of practices that protect natural resources, enhance biodiversity, and ensure the long-term viability of agricultural lands.

We offer extensive training and consultancy services on organic farming methods, helping farmers transition from conventional to organic practices.

This includes guidance on the use of organic fertilizers and biopesticides, crop rotation, and companion planting to naturally enhance soil health and pest resistance.

Our soil conservation initiatives teach farmers techniques such as contour plowing, terracing, and the use of cover crops to prevent soil erosion and improve water retention. Given the arid conditions in Somalia, efficient water management is a critical aspect of our sustainability efforts.

We assist farmers in implementing efficient irrigation systems like drip and sprinkler irrigation, which reduce water usage while ensuring crops receive adequate moisture.

Our integrated pest management (IPM) programs combine biological, cultural, and mechanical methods to control pests, reducing the reliance on chemical pesticides and minimizing their impact on the environment.

By adopting these sustainable practices, farmers not only contribute to environmental preservation but also improve their farm’s resilience to climate change and market fluctuations.

Copra General Services Company is committed to supporting farmers every step of the way, providing the knowledge and resources they need to cultivate healthy, productive, and sustainable farms. In our past collaborations, we have conducted workshops on organic farming techniques with Islamic Relief Somalia (IRS) and introduced efficient irrigation systems with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
